in application support... camera raw/camera raw profiles are two folders:
1. adobe standard
2. camera
in Folder 2. there are a bunch of sony's listed but not my older Alpha 900
in Folder 1. there is a alpha 900 file
Question, what is the difference beween both folders? Are all profiles in both folders created by adobe staff?
Also, when I try to selec a profile from lightroom, I get only two choices a) ACR 4.6 (mhhh?) and b) Adobe standard, but can not choose the alpha 900.
Thanks

Hi,
My understanding is that Adobe Standard is the standard dng profile. The ACR profiles are older profiles, predating Adobe Standard and are not DNG profiles.
The camera profiles are generated by Adobe to emulate vendor colour rendition styles. No such profile has been made for the Alpha 900.
You can make your own profiles with Adobe DNG Profile Editor.
Best regards
Erik

Just on a point of clarification when you are viewing a raw file from the Alpha 900 you will see "Adobe Standard" in the Camera Calibration. That profile is the Adobe Standard profile created specifically for the Sony Alpha 900 camera model.
There is a profile created by Adobe which is specific to each and every supported camera. For your camera model, there are just no additional camera profiles made to emulate the selectable modes in camera like vivid, portrait, landscape etc.

Thanks Denis.

.. but it also includes Adobe's interpretation for a pleasing rendition
(unlike the mhhh-ACR-4.6 plain matrix profile)
which I for one can not share - across several cameras over the past years.
Others may of course see it differently.

The profiles like ACR 4.6, 4.4, 3.6 etc are the old convention for naming the profiles and refer to the version of ACR when support for the camera was first introduced. There were a number of updates/improvements to profiles for individual cameras and eventually the naming process was changed to Adobe Standard. See the screen capture those are the profiles available for my Olympus E20. Initial profile ACR 2.4 update ACR 4.4 and final Adobe Standard. The more recent supported cameras only have Adobe Standard.
