Title: Big legacy lenses on NEX 7
Post by: Herbc on October 11, 2013, 11:03:16 am
Seems like there should be some supplier that offers a support for hanging a big lens on
this camera when it is on the tripod.  Using a 24mm t/s E lens seems like it strains the mounting flange, never mind a bigger lens.  I emailed Really Right Stuff and they said they did not offer such.

Most big telephoto lenses have their own tripod mount shoe. With NEX you hang the small camera off the big lens.

I guess size really does matter.  I was speaking of lenses that don't have a shoe, such as the 24mm t/c e and even the Zeiss 100mm f2, which is pretty heavy.
After some research, I did find supports for movie cameras and their ilk that do have a
few parts that could probably be kluged up to work.
Zacuto and some others make such.

Thanks, I had one for my 67, it might be adaptable.

You could buy adapters with tripod mounts.  Then the adapter takes the weight.  On the pricey side, Metabones offers Arca-compatible and removable tripod mounts on some of their adapters.  Novoflex offers a foot ring that can be used on all of their NEX adapters.  And Photodiox has adapters with tripod mounts, though plan to tighten the screws on there with some regularity.

thanks a lot.  I will investigate.  I am in line for a A7r, seems like it would also have a need for such a device.
