Title: NIK Silver Efex Errors
Post by: Remo Nonaz on July 16, 2013, 10:53:30 am
Last night I converted an image to black and white in Lr4. I then exported the image to CS4 where I could open it with Silver Efex and add some structure to the clouds. When saved, in the resulting tiff file, there were two small, rectangular, digital errors in the image. I re-did the process and the revised image had exactly the same two errors. This confirmed to me that the problem is in the software and not a random drive error.

I was able to fix the errors easily in Lr4 as they were small and in an area of consistent gray tone. Has anyone else seen these errors? The attached photo is a 100% crop of one of the two errors.

Can't help with the errors, Remo. But a word of advice:

DON'T convert to mono in LR and then edit in SilverEfexPro2.

SEP2 really needs all the colour channel information to work effectively.

If you send the full colour image over to SEP2, you will have hugely more control over the mono conversion than you get in LR.

"DON'T convert to mono in LR and then edit in SilverEfexPro2."
+1

The problem sounds driver-related. Ensure your monitor's drivers are up to date and that it has been calibrated recently.
