Luckily I carry a very sturdy-tall tripod -- hard to shoot over all the crowds.

I liked the compression of the longer focal length .. helped with isolation of the crowds & bringing the tower closer in the angle.

I agree with the longer focals. I often use them in crowded places or to align/adjust subjects, just as you did in your photo.

Now a days everyone just has a zoom -- so much easier ;) ---- I had to carry lots of weighted bags walking Europe. The four 120 backs probably weigh more than most digital cameras with a zoom mounted....
