Title: Are any printers designed to print on black paper?

Something that I've wondered recently, is it possible to use a printer that is designed to print on black paper? Of course that requires a completely different approach to ink...

But part of my thinking is, would it result in less ink being used, especially in dark prints?

Are inks printed opaque? Would opaque CMY inks make a good subtractive color mixing?  Would you need white ink printed underneath the colors? Are night scenes more frequent than daylight pictures? Is text usually black on white instead of white on black?

Yes there are printers with an extra white ink to be used on dark and transparent media, in practice that takes more ink.
