Hi
Having solved my White Balance problem, I would like to check on another "characteristic" on the camera.
I notice a "mat-type" pattern when I look at a file at 1:1 in Lightroom or Photoshop. Is this normal?
I have posted one pic (some sky) at 1:1 and one at 2:1.
Your feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks
William

That pattern is unlike anything I have gotten with either of my MKII's unless I am shooting over around 1600 ISO. Sometimes I will see a type of pattern
noise in the shadows, however yours seems even more of a definable pattern. More a grid than noise.
What were the conditions you shot with, raw? jpeg, (if jpeg in camera sharpening on or off), ISO (if high ISO was "high ISO noise reduction on or off)
Both of MKII's seem a bit more pronounced with noise in the blue channel, but it's always been manageable in the past.

I looks like a screen pattern... but
if it is produced by the camera i would go back tot the shop....
But first I would try the Canon raw software and see what that does. Maybe it is the Lightroom engine that fails.

Try Canon's DPP and see if you get the same problem.

Looks to me like miscalibrated column gains on your 5D II. I've seen similar issues on one other 5D2 body, which the user resolved by taking it up with Canon (i.e., got it serviced/repaired/replaced).

Hi Eric
Good to hear from you.
It has just come back from having a new PCB fitted and that is a thought that crossed my mind. I have checked pictures taken before it went in and there is no sign of this. I will have to send it back again.
Here is a sample where I have over-sharpened it to emphasise the pattern.
Thanks also Dave and Kers- I tried it on the Canon software with no luck.
I shoot RAW Paul. I'm sure Eric has hit the nail on the head - they did mention re-calibrating in the service report.
Regards
Wiliam

A Follow Up
I spoke to the technician in Johannesburg today who said that he had e-mailed the samples shown here to Japan. Apparently the Japanese market has had a few incidents of this happening and there appears to be a "bug" in the software when the camera is being re-calibrated.
The new software has been downloaded and I will hopefully have the camera back before the Easter Holidays.
Thanks to all of you who responded.
