Title: GH2 Manuel--Re: Ex Tele Conversion--Pg 66---Poor Info
Post by: Raymond Bleesz on March 10, 2012, 07:51:22 pm
Please help re: the above as it is most confusion.  From what I am reading, in order to use the 2x or 4x conversion, one must be in certain modes & one must use "jpeg" format, yet, one needs to be in "Motion Picture" mode--------what gives?? And the stabilizer on various lenses???????  The first sentence says one can be in scenic, portraiture, scn, mtn. micro modes, but trying to utilize the 2 or 4 doesn't happen

What have you found in order to use either 2x, 4x extender function??

Poor writing, IMO.

A little help for this confused boy---Raymond

PS: If one does find a way to use the Motion Picture plus jpegs to get a 2x or 4x image which increases pixels--then it almost behooves one not to use this function & just crop tight a raw image instead.

If you're shooting stills, there's not much purpose to it; just crop afterwards.  For video, it makes sense.  Instead of downscaling the full sensor, it's taking an appropriate size crop from the center, so you get minimal downscaling artifacts and more reach at the cost of some increase in noise.
