Title: Ricoh module with Leica M-Mount and APS-C sensor

"The GXR Mount A12 module offers a 12MP APS-C CMOS sensor but, unlike the existing modules, it has a redesigned microlens layout designed to better cope with the wide range of lenses that could be mounted on the camera but, more importantly, it has no low-pass (anti-aliasing) filter. The company says it feels it is more important to convey the full characteristics of the lenses than to suppress moiré."

Note that this isn't a completely new camera, just a new sensor and lens module that plugs into the rest of the camera.

It would seem that Ricoh is the first to come to grips with the sensor being a "replaceable" part of the camera - afterall, I don't necessarily need a new thing to hold, just a new thing that captures light!

It will be truly fascinating to see how this product line continues to evolve.

Yep, this sounds like an interesting competitor to the Fuji X100, not to mention to Leica cameras.

The fact that Ricoh becomes the 2nd Japanese niche player to release in 2011 a camera with a 12 MP sensors without AA filter might be the most interesting part of the announcement.

I wouldn't be surprised if upcoming cameras from Nikon (D800 and D4 supposed to be announced in a few weeks) and Canon did follow the same route.
