Title: Has anybody used a Firewire to USB adaptor with a slide scanner?

Hi, 

I have a Nikon CoolScan 4000ED  Firewire scanner.  I am wondering if I can use it with a non Firewire equipped laptop using a Firewire to USB 2.0 adaptor.      Does anybody have experience with using such adaptors?
