Thanks for posting those portfolios with some very nice photos.  I admire your willingness to post your self-critiques.  Setting goals for the future is the best way to improve.

I think your landscape photos are best when they have a strong foreground element, such as Cnip 3, 9 and 10.  When the weather does not provide you with interesting sky, then you must use a composition with a high horizon, which makes the foreground very important.  Of course, it is always nice when the weather gives you something interesting such as Cnip 5 and then you can use a low horizon.

I would enjoy seeing more shots like the harbor scene in Ullapool 3 which is very colorful and has emotional appeal.  (In that particular photo however I might crop slightly at the top to avoid the distraction of the houses in the distance.)

Apart from 2 bird shots, all scans are uncropped. You are right that some photographs might be improved by cropping, but someway I like to have them all in the same square format.

That said, I will certainly have another look in about a month or so. It often takes me some time to get enough 'distance' to see if an image is right or not.

I am still working on the article you mention. I forgot to add 'to be published soon'. Thanks for pointing me out!

Thanks for posting your photos and self-critique of techniques.  In some cases the overcast weather really worked for you.

Thank you very much for posting your portfolios, Wim.  I am always amazed and inspired by them.  The pictures of Skye are especially beautiful.  I was in Scotland only once, and I don't remember it being nearly so beautiful as your pictures...

I was there years ago for only about a half-week, but it was drizzling most of the time, which may have been the problem: very little good light.  The parts I remember are hiking in Glencoe, seeing the Glenelg brochs, Eilean Donan castle, and Edinburgh.  Perhaps I should give it a try again sometime...

Your portfolios are gorgeoue. Skye reminds me of parts of Iceland. Scotland has just moved way up on my list of places I want to visit. Thanks for sharing!
