1 is a nice composition, but I suspect I might like that one better in colour (not sure, just a hunch)

Post by: jasonrandolph on September 27, 2010, 05:19:38 pm: #3 is absolutely outstanding. I'd love to see it framed and mounted on my wall! :) #1 is nice, but it may have too much in focus. I think a narrower DOF would serve it well. All three are excellent IMHO though.

Shows good technique doesn't necessarily yield an excellent picture ;D, another AA mantra.
I think the problem is that a lot of tones of different subjects/surfaces fall too close together while our brain knows they're different, and therefore wants to see more separation. Hence my comment to try colour, since that would provide an additional means to achieve that.

I concur - the third is magical - it has an ethereal quality to it that is quite 'fantastic'. Lovely work.

#1 is not in the same league, but I wonder how a big print would look -
I guess texture is the core working principle here and would need size to really come out.
