Played with one for a week last year.

Utterly fantastic noise structure (since there is no bayer pattern the noise is very "random" and "grainlike" rather than the kind of clumpy digital-feeling noise you see from most dSLRs) and really really great per-pixel sharpness. Tad more dynamic range than a typical P45+.

Very interesting options provided by the wide spectral response, but also a challenge since you'll need to filter out whatever spectrum you don't want. Unfiltered the response includes too wide a spectrum for sharp images using most lenses (since IR and UV light don't filter at the same point as visible light).

Overall very cool that it's available.

Disclosure: we are a dealer.

Last year when the back was reviewed by LL the price was $41,990:

Is this still the case?

Indeed. Of course you could think of it like Apple introduced the iPhone: three cameras in one: UV, IR, and Visible! From that point of view it's only $14k per camera  :)

Megavision and others have made or make broad-spectrum monochromatic backs which are not too appealing for fine-art or commercial photography (they are geared largely for the scientific market). From the major players (Phase/Hassy/Leaf/Sinar) I know of no other similar product. So I suspect the price will remain where it is for quite some time.

Of course that is list price and not street price - but yes it is (and likely always will be) significantly more expensive than say a P45+.
