Meerkats always look nervous - that's why they are so great to watch.  They live hair-trigger lives.

Nice shot Jeremy, although I wonder if the eyes are a bit out of focus?

Very nice portrait!. Colors, lens background blur all contribute to the success of your photo.

Cute portrait.  Nothing quite as intimidating as hearing the roar of a mighty meerkat nearby when hiking.  Kinda like a terrrier on helium.

Eric: they were taken on the same day, a few hundred yards apart.

Ed: I don't think so. The eyes are not quite as pin-sharp as the nose but they're pretty good.

Francois: thanks - a fair bit of credit goes to the new engine in LR3, which has done a great job on the noise reduction. The shot was taken on a 5d2 at ISO3200 and lacked any of the background smoothness when I processed it in LR2.

Still a better option than handing the camera to that young 'tourist' in sneakers and expecting him still to be there when you are 'ready' and look up with the perfect smile!

I think that's the result of conversion to jpeg. It looks pretty smooth in LR, even at 100%.
