Hi,
"Plekto", who writes much on this forum, posted a link to an interesting article regarding the Foevon sensor. It's written by the author of QImage which is a well known program for printing.

Yes, of course. But the article you have found may be of intrest to others who are not interested in Nyquist Frequency, aliasing or OLP-filtering.

Unfortunately the data is so dated now that you're seeing pocket cameras with similar resolution and results(let alone something like an A850).

Sigma hasn't seemed to do anything to develop the foveon for several years. On top of that it must use Sigma lenses with lousy qc. It would be interesting if they had a 12-15mp sensor like other aps-c cameras or 22-25mp like current ff cameras. With such a tiny sensor with no way to limit depth of field and the high noise, low ISO, it is an anachronism. I do not accept that it has resolution of 3x than its sensor size, something less than two perhaps as tests by anyone but Sigma shows. It would probably be a great product if it were developed. I certainly wouldn't give up my Sony a850 for it.

What is it that the linked image tries to illustrate?
When the images are focused on completely different planes and when one image is lit with softened light and the other with a plain flash, what else do these images demonstrate except that they should not be compared at all unless the point has to do with lighting techniques or demonstrating how NOT to do any technical comparisons?

I'm obviously of a different opinion, otherwise I would not have posted the link. In my view it is a valid comparison by an author who actually knows what he is doing.

But the interesting thing is that they ARE on the same plane. What you're seeing is the problem that Bayer pattern sensors have in making every color channel equally clear and in focus.
OTOH, yes, you're right - why bother with something that has 2.5X(roughly the actual equivalent, not 3x as their marketing claims) the resolution of a postage stamp? It was great then but like a 10MP DB, it has roughly zero use any more. Shame, though, since it did have great potential.

Ok, I'm probably wrong about the focus but still the biggest problem is the lighting. It is so different in these images that I simply don't understand the point of doing a comparison this way. I can't think of any transparent reason for changing the lighting between this kind of shots when they are made to be compared. And to make it clear I don't use either of these cameras thus I have nothing at stake. On the other hand like many I would love to see more competition to Bayer-filtration. These images however should make any viewer very suspicious about the intention behind the comparison.
My critique is absolutely not directed to the op or the article itself, only this pair of images is in my view simply unacceptable.
