Title: Got a Mark II Friday before sold out...
Post by: reissme on February 21, 2005, 03:37:20 pm
Hi Pete
I am from Israel and since Feb. 06, I am trying to order from B&H, 1Ds Mark II so they will ship it to me, to Israel. It is a 12000$ order but the guys in the B&H store are not willing to take even an order from me.
They say they don't know when they will get the next shipment from Canon.
(I wish I could come Friday morning and buy one like you did.)
Have you heard anything  about when the 1Ds mark II coming to B&H and how to buy one from them?
Thanks in advance

Thanks, Pat.

Menachem, I checked their website every morning, midmorning, noon, afternoon, and evening each day until I finally saw the green "In Stock" printing show up.  I got lucky, it sold out almost immediately.  Good luck,

Pete.

I and a number of friends buy our equipment from a very reliable Hong Kong dealer called Tony Leung ([email protected]). Latest price on the 1DS MKII is 7520.00USD. A friend had to wait about a week for him to get one in, as he is selling them as fast as he can get them in.

I received mine today.  It shipped with 1.0.3.

I got a corrupted file right off the bat using the RAW+L on a 1gb Transcend card that I've never had problems with.  I switched to RAW by itself and it worked.  They shouldn't be shipping these out anymore until the issue is fixed....I'm glad I got mine, but this issue should be fixed.  $8K for bugs...  Yes it's a beautiful camera, but first things first.  No need to emulate Microsoft :-)

Hi, everyone.

On Friday morning, B&H had 1Ds Mark IIs in stock (they hadn't had any for quite a while until that morning).  I bought one, and they were subsequently sold out two hours later.  Wow.

Anyways, I have a question for those of you who already own one:

What's the firmware version?

I'm curious to see if the one I'll be getting next week has had an update to the firmware.  I'll post if it's different than what's current.

Thanks,

Pete.

I do not have a 1Ds MKII (wish I did) but I believe the latest firmware for it is 1.0.3 (here (http://web.canon.jp/Imaging/eos1dsm2/eos1dsmk2_firmware-e.html)).

I purchased one at Merkle Camera in Canada. They are very pleasant to work with and shipped promptly.

Pete,

As stated above, 1.0.3 is the latest, although for some odd reason it seems to have been removed from the Canon USA web site - the page is there but the link does nothing and the file size is set to 0. Weird.

Hi Pete
Have you read about the bug in the 1ds MII, from other users?
Do you think this is the reason for the long delay in shipping it ?
Do you think the 1.0.3 does not fix the bug and that's why they removed it from the site so they can put a new version in the future? Is it the only problem with the 1Ds MII, because I want to order one ASAP.
Thank you in advance.

Check the threads here and at the Rob Galbraith site. It appears the main problems come up if you are reviewing while the buffer is being flushed, and / or are shooting both raw + jpeg. I never review while it's flushing (coincidentally) and always shoot only raw, and have never had a hiccup with a Lexar 4GB 80x card, for 1100+ images.

Having said that, I do check the Canon site every day for firmware updates .
