Title: Large Format Pocket Camera?

I have a friend who is taking some nice photos with an iPhone, but is also feeling it's obvious limitations.

He would like a pocket camera in which small depth of field is an option so big format, ideally 35mm.

He would also like little shutter lag.

Is there such a camera?

The largest sensor with the highest resolution in the smallest camera is the Leica X1 (http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/cameras/x1-field.shtml), due out next month. It's also the most expensive.

My other suggestion would be the Panasonic GF1 (http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/cameras/gf1.shtml). A slightly smaller sensor, a slightly larger body, much less expensive, but also with interchangeable lenses.

one of the smallest film pocket cameras: olympus xa2, great manual focus range finder lens, tiny, no shutter lag.
the smallest 35mm digital pocket camera: leica M9 with latest 50mm elmar, the killer pocket rocket!

Wow, he's still around. Amazing.

He had a rental studio in Santa Monica that I checked out in the 80's, and was still working steady in the calendar trade even then. He and his wife were the nicest people you could hope to meet. Glad to see he's still kicking.
