Title: 4880 Queries
Post by: Conner999 on October 10, 2009, 10:48:58 am

On the 4880. Still doing research, but had some questions for users if I could:

1. How good is the vacuum system at keeping paper flat and avoiding scratches on glossy papers like Harman Fb AL?

The manual indicates a choice of ejection method - including 'starwheel', which got my attention as have a 3800 that while wicked for matte, is just one of those copies, courtesy of the #$%^& pizza wheel system, that doesn't play well (scratches) with larger SG or G papers. Started out with just marking larger Harman Gloss, now IGFS as well  - and I've tried EVERYTHING anyone has ever suggested on any forum -- from the obvious basics (platen, thickness, cleaning printer, drying time, etc) to wetting the back of the paper and back again - including the front sheet feed + backing method of Eric Chan's (which works about 75% of the time). My days of PW-based printers are OVER.

2. The auto sheet feeder - will it take up to 17x22, 13x19 or just letter?  Will go to rolls, but will likely start out and focus heavily on sheet stock - at least for time being

3. Any other tidbits/praise/cautions people would like to share would be appreciated. Still have the 2x rebates on in Canada until end Oct, so would like to take advantage of it if a viable option.

im still in learn mode but i already know the rear manual loading is annoying, i loaded 8.5x11 easily from the paper tray but didnt try other sizes.
the front loader is totally useless, i tried many times but i cant figure it

Erez?,

Looks like from manual that the tray will support up to 17x22. The front feed process does look a little convoluted.
Interesting on the rear feed - lot of error messages? My 3800 does the same - usually have to load paper 2-3 times.
