Growing medium format photography
In June 2009 a new company was formed known as Leaf Imaging Ltd. to continue to develop, market, sell and service digital camera equipment under the “Leaf” brand.
Leveraging advantages
Since entering into this new market situation, Leaf and Phase One have worked intensively on identifying areas of mutual advantage, e.g. where technologies can be shared across products and where sales efforts can be strengthened.
Both Leaf and Phase One will continue to work with you, our existing customer bases. Now and in the future our customers will find products in their brand of choice to meet their needs.
Already throughout the rest of 2009, this new organization plans to bring out new products, tools and initiatives for more and better options for photographers.
Leaf, as well as Phase One photographers, have always valued choice in selecting the system which best suits their individual requirements, needs and photographic styles. This freedom of choice will continue, by offering the best tools to serve their creative visions. In a few months, the range of options for Leaf shooters will expand with support for Leaf digital backs in Phase One's Capture One software. This not only means photographers will be able to leverage Capture One features, but also future versions of Capture One will comprise a synergy of the best features from both the Capture One and Leaf Capture products. The Leaf product portfolio will continue to expand, following a clear roadmap. Leaf engineers are currently working on several product developments, including the Leaf Aptus-II 8, a 40 megapixel digital back and the entry level, affordable Leaf Aptus-II 5, a 22 megapixel digital back.
Leaf and Phase One will continue to market products under their respective brands, offering separate and distinctive high quality products that accommodate the needs of professional photographers. Through tight R&D cooperation, the development of internal components will be synergized, allowing for faster hardware and workflow developement. This will mean customers can look forward to seeing new product innovations in the market sooner than before. Both Phase One and Leaf customers can look forward to experiencing new tools, new functionality and a higher image quality not previously available.
We want you to know that we are actively promoting the same Phase One camera platform, and coordinating developments on body and lens technologies with Mamiya.
Joint efforts will be made with Phase One's strategic partner, Mamiya Digital Imaging, to further develop the 645 camera platform. It is essential to have and invest heavily in a high performance, open camera platform, which photographers can work from. As a result of this new business set up the Phase One camera and lens range is now already available to Leaf customers.
For questions or more information, please feel free to contact Leaf Marketing.
NOTE: In a few months, the range of options for Leaf shooters will expand with support for Leaf digital backs in Phase One's Capture One software.
Does this mean tethered?

tethering a leaf 75S back to the latest leaf capture software brings up the statement that "this is not a Leaf Imaging product"
I don't know what that means in the future, are they not supporting backs before the Aptus 7II or 10II?

The release notes of the latest LC 11.2.8 states they only tested compatibility with backs sold after August 2009. Even though it says "this is not a Leaf Imaging product", does it still function with your 75s?
None of the LC's are ready to go with Snow Leopard which is a bit worrisome.

Will Leaf owners get free copies of the Phase Software? I already own it myself but I am curious.

That sounds a lot like the new 6 micron cell size tricking down to 44x33mm format, for 7333x5500 = 40.3MP.
Price compared to the Leica S2 at 45x30mm, 37.5MP?

it still functions. but it's a worrying sign to have such a message.not sure what it says for future compatibility and software support.

Makes me wonder if there will be a Leaf Aptus-II 9 48x36 6 micron?

I don't know that it makes any kind of statement on Leaf other than Apple does not share the code from their upcoming releases with them until it's out the door.
Snow Leopard was released 19 days ago and ahead of schedule. I would imagine there will be an update soon. Phase One had an update in about 12 days. So Leaf is currently 7 days behind Phase. But then again major software products, even from Adobe, have sometimes lagged months behind Mac OS system releases. It's not unusual.

I was referring to the support of the 75S, not snow leopard.
just to clarify

Ok, I understand.
11.2.4 supports (officially) back to Aptus 17. There are staggered versions, with minor enhancements that are primarily camera or back specific compatibility versions rather than major updates which don't support prior models. But it is strange that the 11.2.8 documentation shows support for Aptus but not Aptus S, while version 11.2.4 does support Aptus S. Why the latest would support an older Aptus rather than a newer Aptus doesn't make any sense. Perhaps an administrative oversight. I'll check into it and let you know.
