Yes digital cameras have shutters, and they work exactly the same way as film cameras.

Instead of a film plane, you have the sensor.

Do digital cameras have shutters? I know they quote shutter speeds but then they also quote ISO speeds when ISO has not issiud a standard. Rather like the old ASA rating for colour film.

I thought some point & shoots simply turn the sensor on and off to simulate the shutter speed?

But the 1D still has a shutter, though. It just is not used as the primary exposure control mechanism.
