Does Nikon have plans to release a DSLR that rivals the Canon 1DS?
Only Nikon knows what Nikon plans.  I've been asking around about this very issue and no one seems to even have heard any rumors about rumors.  Nothing.  Nada.

I personally am convinced that they will have something coming out and I expect that it will be the best too.  If their sensor contamination handling is better than the terrible situation with 1ds, I'll switch to Nikon, unless the next Canon 1ds version has solved the problem.

Rumor Mill Rumbles to Life
We must be getting close to another major annoucement from Nikon, as the rumor mill is rumbling again much like it did prior to the D70 announcement. But, gee, what to make of these rumors? The upcoming D2x is everywhere from 8mp to 15mp, 2fps to 9.5fps, and announced anywhere from next week to Photokina (we do know that mules disguised as D2h's are outside Japan). The FM3D rumor is back (FM3a body with 6mp D70 sensor). New AI-P lenses are on the list (35mm f/1.4 and return of the legendary 105mm f/2.5, both of which would make sense with the compact FM3D). Three new VR lenses: 35-135mm f/2.8, 100-300mm f/2.8, and 300-600mm f/4. Unlike others who think these are strange focal lengths, I hope the rumor is true, because it will release the exotics from fixed focal lengths!
Well he was wrong about "next week" as its now nearly  2 months later

Nikon will come good. They are the true thoroughbreds.  I mean, the competition uses vulgar white lenses, can you imagine?

On the advice of a previous luminous landscape article, I purchased a Pentax 67II.  I also own a number of Nikon lenses and bodies.  I just recently read Michael's direct comparison of the Canon 1DS to the Pentax, and found the former to be superior.  However, I am reluctant to purchase yet a third camera system.  Does Nikon have plans to release a DSLR that rivals the Canon 1DS?

Are you referring to those pristine new agey angelic heavenly pure white Canon lenses as "vulgar"? Tsk!!  Moreover, are you actually admitting that Canon qualifies as serious comptetition for Nikon? Tsk!

Anyway, we're all too mature here to get into a serious war about Canon vs Nikon.  As for what really matters, however, I can't imagine why there's folks around using PC's instead of Macs.

If a thread topic leaves no scope for anything substantive or informative, that DOESN'T mean there no scope for anything at all, right?
