On my camera it seems to work perfectly. I just shot 10 minute exposures with mirror lock-up and the files are recorded. I'm also using the latest firmware (1.2.2). Bear in mind that I just tried a few exposures and I might have been lucky!

Second issue, if you have noise reduction turned on then you will have to wait after the image for the dark noise subtraction image to be calculated before the final image is written to the card.
And It's my understanding that (on the 1D MkII) for a 1 minute exposure the noise reduction system takes an equivalent 1 minute dark exposure.

Check the serial number of your lexar cards against this article:

You may be dealing with a variant of this problem and may need to apply to lexar for card replacement/upgrade.
(All three of my 2gb 80x Lexar cards are affected and I am waiting on replacements...)

Has anyone had a problem with a 1D MkII when using mirror lock.
I have just been trying to do some long exposure shots and realised that the camera was not writing the shot to the CF card. I changed lens and card (differing Lexar ones, so that should not be a problem) but no difference. Out of about 10 shots taken only one was written. If I disabled Mirror Lock up then all is well. I am using the latest firmware released last week, so wondered...

Another one of my basic questions - How many times are you pushing the shutter release to take a picture? You need to push the shutter release once to lock up the mirror, then a second time to take the picture...just checking you are following the correct procedure.

Exactly. If you only press the shutter release once, the mirror will go up, but after 15 seconds or so it will come back down without opening the shutter if you don't press the shutter release the second time.

Many thanks for all your comments and advice.
After reading your comments, I think I have now isolated the problem. Following a number of tests I found that I was not getting a proper second press of the shutter - it was down to my remote sticking or not operating properly.
I have changed the remote and all seems to be working fine.
On the question of CF Cards, I have lost the odd first shot on my 80x 2Gb ones and I now have an RMA number to return them to Lexar. No problems with older ones.
