Need your feedback on buying Nikon 58mm/F1.2 Noct nikkor from a gray market guy.,

as per my research there are two range in this lense. what is the difference between both.??

What are the strong advantage apart from shooting low light things and speed.

I used to own a copy of that lens but I am not sure about that part.

- The bokeh is very nice,
- Spherical lenses have surfaces whose section is a part of a perfect circle. They are traditionnally the only lenses that could be manufactured and polished. They are cheaper to manufacture even today, but offer less flexibility designwise than aspherical lenses in terms of correcting the many possible imperfections of a lens.

Bernard

the two versions are optically identical.
(though, as always, lens-to-lens sample variation should be considered)
the main differences are: a number of aperture blades (7 in the first version
and 9 in the second).  and the focus throw, which is longer in the first version.

I'll take this one since others have answered your other questions. I don't know what you shoot or what camera you use, on FX 58mm is roughly 85mm equivalent which is a great fl for portrait work and a great short telephoto for street. The Noct has great bokeh and is very sharp from f1.2, but very hard to nail focus at that aperture, mostly hit and miss. I like it as a portrait lens and often use it in the f4 to f5.6 range but your mileage might vary depending on your tastes and subject matter. Highly recommended!

Thank you very much, clear about my decision.
