I’m a longtime Lightroom user, with escapes to PS (CS3) for some corrections and softproofing.
With a 24”printer in my room I saw some light in Qimage and bought de Studio Edition, only to find out that it is much more than a decent print manager.
I would be happy to hear if there are any suggestions for a proven and successful workflow integrating Lightroom and Qimage.

Although I am certainly not an expert Qimage user I still prefer sending out images from LightRoom on my edit computer a Mac to a shared folder and have Qimage watch this folder. Then I set the page size etc in Qimage, set the ICC profile for the printer media and off it goes. BTW this is Qimage running on Windows XP on my MacBook Pro. I haven't yet played with the sharpening, or figured out templates but Qimage prints are always much sharper than any prints directly out of LR or Photoshop and the driver. I don't want to have to sharpen the image and Qimage let's me have sharp images and place multiple images when and where I want. Light Room doesn't let me print different sizes easily on the same pages.

The picture package hack does it, once you've hand-edited one preset you've made the hardest. It's certainly not as flexible as QImage, but the workflow is much simpler.

Qimage is a super program and by far the best and easiest way to print. It automatically takes care of ressing your image not only taking into account the print size you require and adjusting sharpening etc, but also optimises the file for thr native resolution of your printer.
It integrates well with LR. Just set it up as an external editor and make an export preset. Then simply select the files you want to print and use the export preset. Qimage opens and the files appear ready for printing - excellent!

Oh yes I just tried works quite well. Not the same as Qimage but gives an easy method to make some prints inside LR.

As a side note, LR also does that with 2 caveats :
- you have to specify once the native res of your printer driver (360ppi for Epson and 300 for the rest, I think),
- the uprezzing and sharpening algorithms may not be the same.

This sounds very good but how do you create an export preset to send the files to Qimage?

I go to Edit - Preferences - External Editor and create a preset for Qimage under "Additional External Editor". You can have multiple external editors. Then I select the photos, right click and pick Qimage from "Edit in". I don't understand why you would create an export preset. Doesn't this mean you have to physically export the file to another location as well? Or can an export preset be created where the file can be left where it is but opened in Qimage?
