Title: Leica D-Lux

This is the Panasonic collaboration with the big screen on the back, right? (bit rusty on the Leica names that's all!)

I've not used one, but I do know a guy who has one - he works in my favourite London Leica specialist store - and is delighted with it. In fact yesterday I was looking at some shots he'd taken at a "Birds of prey" place, on screen admittedly, not on paper and they did look most impressive. The fine feather detail around the eyes of a tawny owl was clearly visible.

Perhaps the only "drawback" is that it shoots only Jpeg. This may or may not concern you of course.

The thing is goodlooking but is only a 3 megapixel camera. I have found no reviews of this camera on any digital photography web site. Out of nowhere, MacAddict (a magazine I like quite a bit) reviews the the camera as awesome.

I would never scorn nice design (especially in a pocket camera for those times when I don't want to lug the 1Ds). Before I go get an S50, can anyone tell me whether they have used this camera, and what they think of the image quality.

Pixman 63,

As far as I can tell, the camera has exactly the same guts as the Leica. The leica has all metal casing, a better warranty, and twice the sales price.

Jpeg only, along with the inferior MD memory do concern me, but I can probably live with it.

If your friend's budget had been higher, would he have spent $820 US on this camera, as opposed to a canon G5 or an S50 which each have 5 megapixels? Is his camera that good?
