Title: 3800 profile for Premier Photo Luster?
Post by: Peter Mellis on March 23, 2009, 04:36:16 pm
I just got some Premier Photo Luster to run on my Epson 3800 and am a bit confused relative to the appropriate profile to use. Looked on the Premier web site for a profile to download; no profile (unless I missed it). Only reference that I could find, was to run it as Epson Premier Photo Paper Glossy, with high speed on. The Atlex web site (where I bought the paper) says to use the corresponding Epson profile, which I assume is Ultra Photo Premium Paper Luster.

I bought the paper to see if I like it and don't mind experimenting a bit, but would like a starting point. Would appreciate a recommendation from someone that's run this paper on a 3800 as to what profile to start with.

By the way, am I the only 3800 owner that is a bit tee'd of that Epson (and most others) doesn't make their papers available in 17" X 25" so that 2:3 ratio picture can be max'd out?

According to Eric Chan's excellent 3800 FAQ, the Epson profile you want to use is called Pro38 PLPP.icm    (for Epson Premium Luster Photo Paper.)

If you haven't done so, you should read through and bookmark his notes and FAQ: You will find the notes here (http://people.csail.mit.edu/ericchan/dp/Epson3800/index.html) and the FAQ here. (http://people.csail.mit.edu/ericchan/dp/Epson3800/faq.html)

I wouldn't say I'm "tee'd off", because there are better options out there.  You would think that the printer manufacturer would want to offer its own paper in a wide variety of sizes to promote its use, but I read somewhere that Epson uses acids in some of its papers, calling into question print longevity.  I do like Exhibition Fiber, but I prefer Hahnemuhle's papers.  And since other paper manufacturers make other sizes available, I find my needs met.
