Not sure if proper place, but I have some vintage photos of my father in Korea during the war, and I would like to send them out to be enlarged. Some are quite small, about 2x2.  Looking for recommendations  of people who could do expert work.

try Digitalcustom.com   they do all sorts of photo restoration work. Also, check if any framers in your area do old photo work.

I've scanned quite a few old prints - the smaller ones usually at 1200 dpi or so.  Anyone can do good scanning - what makes the difference in the end is whether the lab uses auto-applied fixes for defects, or fixes them by hand.  Fixing by hand is time-consuming, but gets much better results.  All depends on how valuable the photo is.

If you want to try it yourself, Katrin Eismann's "Photoshop Restoration and Retouching" is a good book on that matter.

Also check out  Digital Restoration From Start to Finish: How to repair old and damaged photographs by Ctein, an excellent book on restoration.

Thanks for the suggestions. I don't have a quality scanner so I would prefer to send them to someone who specializes in this kind of work. The photos are of particular value to me, so I would like to use someone with experience.

If you don't want to tackle the job yourself I recommend Ctein. Not cheap, just very good.

This could be tricky when dealing with restore people, but I would strongly recommend, regardless of how much process you're paying for, that you make sure they give you an original scanned image before any retouching takes place.  You will want to compare before and after very carefully.
