Title: Large format tripod head recommendation?

Curious of what others are using for their view camera that are strong and precise... application will be studio use with a sinar p.

I like the sinar pantilt head.. on a tripod.. but the p2 in the studio belongs on a foba stand with a foba gear head.. perfection.  if you want something cool but not sinar.. check out the arca cube.. very nice little geared head.
the p2 is heavy and with long bellows.. front bellow/mattebox., and veiwer.. or backs..it's puts a lot of strain on the head.. the sinar head is mated to the rail holder to ensure a good bond. all you need with the p2 is pan and tilt.. you can dutch with the rail.

Nothing better than the Bogen 3263 Geared head.

I have used one for years in the studio and it is wonderful.  Big and heavy, but nothing beats it.

The Arca Cube is great, but way too expensive and looks more like a piece of art, than a utility.

    The ideal solution would be the ARCA-SWISS C1 Cube head. Given the weight and size of the P2, the interior-arc design of the C1 Cube head will make precise adjustments effortless. Downside.... Price.

The Manfrotto 3263, as mentioned above, has been renamed the Manfrotto 400 Heavy Duty Geared Head. This head is quite large, and supports any possible camera configuration. The geared movement is not as precise as the ARCA-SWISS C1 Cube, yet more than adequate for "large" format digital. Currently sells for approx $750.

If you are working on a Foba stand, a Foba geared head would also work well. It handles larger, heavier camera systems very well, due to its offset design.

I have the Bogen 3263 on a set of Bogen 3251 legs and that setup works great with my Sinar X.
