I reckon they are basically under exposed - but still its not good

My e22 attached image..

The room is quite strongly flashed

(big downres)

These are good to see.

One thing that has bugged me about digital images from Canons (maybe others, I don't know) is what happens in the transition to blown or near blown highlights.  these shots show a clear differnece between the two cameras. (Canon on right in both crops)

Why is that?

If you mean the color stuff that happens in the transition from near to blown highlights?

As far as I know this is due to the fact not all channels will be blown out at the same time. One goes first causing the others to create a color shift, a bit later the next will follow, etc..

This can also happen with MFDB's if you are not careful.

eh ? you havnt quoted me in your quote

anyway the image I posted was proably eyelike software I am not sure its not so downrezzed to kill any noise anyway - but IMO it is smoother in the shadow thatn the OPs example and that is with a camera software that is about three versions behind todays standards

I now use brumbaer and silkypix and CS2 on my 54LV

I find capture shop too heavy (slow) for my workflow

me too.

but i quoted the things about the highlights because the highlight rendering is much better in brumbaer than in CS

Eh ? are you saying you like my picture or think its rubbish ?

I think I have conrolled the tones (through flash and ETTR) far better than the 'sinar virgin' so wanted to post an image that was less offputting to other viewers but maybe the low resolution is not illustrating my point

well ... i would say it has nothing to do with liking or not.

i just was asking how you made them and which sw you used ...
