Title: Multi-shot DSLR?

I was wondering if it is possible / viable to make Multi-shot 36mmx24mm DSLRs?  What would be the problems involved, if any?  Will the IQ see a vast improvement over single shot DSLRs?  Any ideas?

Probably it would be possible but whether it would be economically feasible? I have a multishot back and the difference between MS and Single is enormous, IMO.

The only multishot-like DSLR currently available is the Sigma SD14 (and its predecessor). Which is not so much as a multishot but has a sensor type that doesn't interpolate the colors (Foveon).

I would expect more manufacturers to use Foveon (or technology like that) before we will see MS DSLR's.

I think Henry was more thinking stuff like Canon & Nikon ?

The Digiflex handles MS very well (I use it) but I would have liked to be able to raise the mirror before taking the 16shot. It feels like the vibration of the mirror causes an ever so slight movement. Many of my 16shot shots appear to be having a sort of aliassing/stairstepping that is not there with the H2 (with mirror-up). No problems with multishot (4x).

I wish something like the DigiFlex saw a second life. It is such a beautiful piece of equipment. A shame it is discontinued. Together with my CF39 and ZF glass it is a killer 22MP combination & if you don't mind a nice black border it is a 30MP combination. It is sharper than my H glass and has the Zeiss OOF rendition.

It is limited because of the shutter. Most lenses go further than 24x36. I have also used truewide and miniwide with Copal No1 shutter and the Aptus17 which has a 42x31 sensor. Every lens above 35 I owned covered that area without real problems. Most wide angles have a smaller circle that they can cover (still most have a bit more than 24x36 but not much).

The shutter of the Digiflex clears an area of around 27x39 (more or less).

It' also possible to use a Sinarback 23HR or 43HR with a Digiflex. But i don't know the ability of this camera with the 4 or 16 shots mode.
