I have been in digital photography for less than a year but I still don't know how to do photoshop and I would like to start learning it.Anyway,could anyone out there please recommend to me good books about photoshop for a beginner like me.

There's also Scott Kelby's book 'Adobe Photoshop CS3 for Digital Photographers'.

For basic and very lucid Photoshop education I would highly recommend Ben Willmore's Photoshop Studio Techniques and the up-dates for CS2 and CS3.

I want to add another vote for the Martin Evening Book
and also: Real World Photoshop, by David Blatner and the regretted Bruce Fraser.
Real World Camera Raw by Bruce Fraser, and now the CS3 version by Jeff Schewe should be a must have.
For selections, Photoshop Masking and Compositing by Katrin Eismann.
I usually find the Kelby books written for absolute beginners.

I found learning Photoshop very easy using Total Training Photoshop Training series to be excellent. I've used this series since Photoshop CS came out. Once you master the techniques in the series, then the books will become more meaningful.

I took a weekend course on CS3 at the local community college, came home with more questions than answers, and totally confused. Then I read Scott Kelby's CS3 book and found it very useful for a beginner because his illustrations are clear and got me started. His book is superficial but contains enough coverage for most amateurs. I particularly find his gradient map technic for BW conversion very useful and fun to use. Now I am reading Martin Evening's book. It is more technical, more in depth but sometimes his instructions are not entirely clear and I find myself rereading the page 4-5 times. Nevertheless, it is a great book.
So if you just want a simple, easy to read book to get you started, then Scott Kelby's book is the first choice. Martin Evening's book is more complete, more authoritative but requires more effort on your part. If you are serious about learning ps, you need to go beyond Scott Kelby's book.
