"Oly announced the long awaited (4+ years) Olympus E-3 Digital SLR"

What, since before the E-1 came out ?  Dear me we're an impatient bunch, us Olympus users

The E1 was announced in March of 2004. According to my math that's 4+ years.

Unless it's 2008 in Canada, that would be 3+ years.

2004+4=2008. Good thing Michael didn't choose a career in accounting or another arithmetically demanding field.

Oops!  

Actually, Phil Askey of dpreview did a full review the E-1 in November 2003 so it is 4+ years since the E-1 was released.

My mistake was not in saying 4+ years, which it was. Rather it was writing above that it was released in 2004, not 2003, - a simple typo.

So – are we all now happy with the historical timeline?

Well, not really.  Implying that we sad, misguided Olympus customers were ALL unhappy with our E-1s from the day they were annonced is, er, stretching it.  It took a good 6 months.

Actually I recall a day in June 2004, in Iceland, where a bunch of photographers huddled in a minibus over their 20Ds and 1Ds MkIs all stared in amazement as I went out in the pouring rain with my E-1, ducked behind a torrential waterfall, took a couple of shots and came back, with the camera still working fine.

The shots were rubbish, mind you. I was never one to listen to advice :-)
