IF these 1Ds3 files are actually "thicker" (read: significantly more dynamic range) than the current models, transitions are better, and the viewfinder image is a bit larger (and it seems to be...), then that will probably be good enough for me.
As it stands, I find the USB connection on the 5D to be WAY, WAY more reliable than the stupid firewire on the 1Ds2/1D2. Even though the 5D USB port also requires gaffer tape to stay put. I have sent three 1Ds2/1D2 bodies in to Canon to have the firewire ports replaced at least 6 or seven times in the past few years! Never had to replace a 5D port, even though I have three 5D bodies and assistants and I have been shooting the 5Ds tethered 5 days a week since they first came out 2 years ago. No problems there.
So if the 1Ds3 has USB, I am fine with that. Anyway, it seems like the main bottleneck when tethered is the speed of the hard drive you are writing to, no?
If the above enhancements are real (i.e., better D.R., etc...), I'll buy one or two 1Ds3s. The only thing I would remain wishing for is a more square format -- (likely never to happen from Canon)...and better lenses (i.e. less chromatic abberation, etc...)
(p.s. someone at fotocare told me today that they may not carry the ZD back in rental now that they see the specs for this Canon...)
Best,
