Title: Oregon Coast

I am thinking about making a photo trip to the Oregon coast in April. I would like to hear from any of you if the weather would be reasonable in April, and any special suggestions for locations.

It's beautiful out today. Predicting any further than that is a crapshoot, but as long as you'll be here for a few days chances are you'll get some good shooting weather in April. April and May are actually some of my favorite shooting months as everything is fresh and green(er).

Don's correct, it's a crapshoot.  However, even bad weather can lead to some good opportunities if you keep your eyes open.

I'm more familiar with the north end, and can recommend, from south to north, Cascade Head (http://www.outdoorphotoop.com/Oregon/Cascade_Head.html),  Cape Lookout (http://www.outdoorphotoop.com/Oregon/Cape_Lookout.html), and Ecola State Park (http://www.outdoorphotoop.com/Oregon/Ecola_State_Park.html).  There is lots of stuff in the area.

AFA locations, I second John's recommendations for the north coast, in particular the Three Capes scenic "detour" off 101, and would add the Oswald West walk-in park.

For the central coast (where I am), Yaquina Head, Cape Perpetua area, Heceta Head, Darlingtonia, and if you're lucky the wild rhodies will be blooming already n/s of Florence (Sutton, Honeyman).

Not too familar with the south coast but there's plenty there also. The north coast is the most scenic - just too wet for me to live there

You may want to check out the Oregon Dunes too. The most popular area is the Oregon Dunes Overlook, near Florence. My favorite dunes access is Eel Creek campground (if I remember correctly), south of Reedsport.

Yes to the dunes - Sutton and Honeyman will get you big dunes also.

Shore Acres park is also a prime location. Lots of nice rocks right at the tide lines.

There are many iconic locations, some of which have been already mentioned. You do not mention where you're coming from and where you'd like to go. You also do not mention what you'd like to photograph, so specific locations are hard to recommend. The coast is over three hundred miles long; US 101 is a slow road. If you have time, it would be a great trip from Gold Beach to Astoria.

I particularly like the area south of Newport, Yachats, Cape Perpetua, Devils Elbow State Park with the famous Heceta Head lighthouse. You can drive along that relatively deserted part of the coast and stop almost anywhere, there are lots of state parks, and get great stuff.

Weather on the Oregon Coast, except for August, is always a gamble. I've had days of rain even in August when it can go 60+ days without rain inland.
