Title: Balanced Rock - Moab (3 shots from various angles) + 1 more
Post by: Dave (Isle of Skye) on June 01, 2026, 09:04:41 am
From a recent visit.

What a difference, when shooting this location in spring, with interesting clouds in the sky.

Been here three times now, twice in autumn, with clear blue skies day after day and now once in spring, with lots of lovely puffy clouds and the occasional storm rolling in.

...and as I said above, what a difference it made!

Very nice shots. I always liked how slightly shifted (or not so slightly) points of view can give a completely different image. Weather and time of the day can also change the perception. I often compare Balanced Rock to the Matterhorn (pov makes it barely recognizable).

Thanks guys for all your comments  ;D

...and here is yet another shot of the "Balanced Rock" and surrounding rock structures. But taken from yet another angle and with the snow capped La Sal Mountains in the distant background.

Regards

Nice photos and I agree about the clouds. I've had many grand plans but frustrating conditions with no clouds here in the American West.
We just got a break from weeks without hardly a cloud and it wears me down. It's been a pretty dry spring but it seems like the monsoon is coming in now.
