Title: Find and compare gamuts (ranges of colors they can produce) of color printers?

Where do you find this kind of information? Printer manufacturers seem to not want to share it. Epson, for instance, only says about their SureColor P700 Photo Printer that it has an expanded color gamut and a wide color gamut. What does that even mean? Where are the numbers and/or graphs to understand and compare different printers or see if a particular monitor/printer combination makes sense? At least many monitor specifications include gamut information.

Your insight and help will be greatly appreciated.

Nobody is hiding any of that information, you just need to know how to look at an icc profile in a program that can graph it, like Andrew is linking to with Colorthink Pro.  You can then observe and analyze gamuts for different printers and paper combinations to your heart's content.

If you're on Windows and want a free solution:  http://www.gamutvision.com/modules.php?name=Download

it can also be done for free with argyllcms, but that's going to require quite a bit of command line understanding.  You can look at individual gamuts one at a time in Colorsync Utility on a mac, but you can't compare them by overlaying etc.
