Backpacked over five days. The only gear was a small but mighty Sony RX100MIII. Looking into upgrades.

I've had trips like that too. I try to enjoy the trip regardless but getting photos I'm proud of make it even more enjoyable.

I lean towards colour,... but the monochrome version does indeed appeal to me more, guess it is the lights versus the darks that appeals more strongly to me.

I have been to that place I would suggest you going there during an electrical storm maybe the shock will motivate your creativity...not trying to be so mean but you should be able to make a few decent images without 40mi hike bottom line is you got your steps in and one good image.
