Hi all, I'm doing some tests on my HP Z3200ps and Z3100PS and trying to find a way to scan identical profile targets with both printers, but they use different software.
For the Z3200 I can scan both built-in and custom targets using HP Color Center, but I can't use it for the Z3100.
For both printers I can scan both built-in and custom targets using HP APS software. So APS is the only software I can use for both printers.
But I also want to compare the scanning between both HP CC and APS on the same printer (Z3200). Unfortunately I can't get identical targets from both software.
A 1728-patch target I generate in HP CC is formatted slightly differently than one generated in HP APS. The latter has 1 less patch per row, so a slightly longer sheet. As a result I can't scan HP CC's printed target with HP APS, and vice versa.
I tried using both targets, but when I compared the scan results (using Argyll colverify tool) I found massive differences between HP CC and APS (like avg deltaE 4+ and max deltaE 12+), so I'm not even sure that they are printing the colour patches the same.
Anybody found a way to use identical targets in both HP Colour Centre and APS?

Self-necro... I solved this and forgot to post the solution. Setting the paper roll width to 23.5 inches (instead of 24) makes HP Color Center create the profile target page with the same number of patches per row that the HP APS software expects when scanning. That makes a "universal" profiling target than can be scanned by either HP CC or HP APS. Useful if someone wants to compare the output of both software, or wants to compare scans between Z3200 and Z3100.

with APS my largest plot is about 2700 patches.

I don't want to be getting too deep in Argyll for i think it is good, but very complicated to really use it properly;
- after all i am a photographer - and cannot be an expert in everything...

This topic only came up last year because I was trying to diagnose some "problems" with a Z3200PS that I rescued, and I was comparing print results with my Z3100PS GP. Among the many variables I was trying to check at that time was whether the HP Colour Centre software was getting good profile target scans, so I tried to compare scans with HP APS to see if/how they differed. But I ran into the issue that APS and CC lay out the same target differently (number of patches per row) and so a profile target sheet made by one was rejected by the other.
But I simply forgot about this thread last year and only stumbled upon it again yesterday during a forum search for something else. So I just replied to it to include the "answer" I discovered a year ago about the paper roll width trick so the same target can be scanned by both CC and APS.
Ultimately that tip for these legacy printers and software is probably of very little use for anyone still printing today, but I just wanted to post the info anyway so the knowledge isn't lost.
