Hi all. I get a "Data Base" error when I try to post. I used COPY and PASTE to post an item I posted on several other sites.
Thanks

this is a test....

I cannot post to Coffee Corner.
-
It is this buggy forum of which some work, others don't, and it is intermittent. The owners are aware as it has been reported now for over a week. Logging out than back in again sometimes works.
Also broken are email notifications of posts you've subscribed to.
And look at the mess of characters on my sig.
All very messy.
-
As of this morning, I can post again.
-
And as of this morning, I can't in some forums.
And still no email notification.
And some type characters are getting messed up (like my Sig).
WTF is going on here?
-
Yes, me too - tried a number of times last nite & today. I got a series of nonsensical error messages, from a "ask your administrator" to "you have already submitted this post" to just no response to the "post" button.
I have a significant issue to report to the Color Management forum, but I don't know how many hours I can waste on this...
:-(

Still cannot post here. Is nobody home at LuLa anymore?
John
-
Nobody has been home for awhile.
-
Well, I see Neil Snape is able to post in the color management section, but still no luck here.
Andrew - Sorry to see you confirm LuLa's status (but not really surprised)

If you have a continuing issue posting - please refresh your browser etc.
yes- very much at home.
There was a lot of action while we uploaded / connected our beta test gallery.
Apology for the frustrations.
If posting remains an issue - once again please notify Paul if you have an issue you might think is particular to your situation.

I've joined the ranks of "Can't post". Last evening I tried to start a new thread in The Coffee Corner, and got Data Base error twice. I have just tried to post this and got the same. I am logged in, so what is going on? It is just a waste of time and people will abandon Lula soon. 5 of the last 6 articles seem to be postings of old articles judging by the dates at the bottom of each, so nothing new there. I will be surprised if this is accepted!

Well, I did send an email to the address Josh linked. That was Saturday, no reply to my msg yet. Yes, it was over the weekend, so not expecting immediate response, but seems like there should be some urgency from the site to respond to this situation.
I do hope LuLa can restore the site's functionality...
John

I'll have Paul adress this today.
Can you outline what the issue is for more than one account ?

Josh
Well, for me personally, the issue is that when I try to post using the "New Topic" button, I get a Database Error message. (I sent a copy of it to Paul)
This happens in the Color Management and the Printing forums. Also did it to me this AM when I tried in this forum. Eventually I was able to contribute a post that I started via the "Reply" button - don't know if that is significant or just chance.
John

I appreciate everyone's patience as I work to resolve the issue with creating new posts. I have identified the most likely cause for the database errors and have begun to take steps to correct them. The issue should be resolved tomorrow. However there may be some short forum outages as the updates are applied to fix the problems.
This should also correct the problem with notification emails failing to send.

Excellent!
-
I've made some updates to the forum that should correct some of the boards that people couldn't post too. However, some boards might still have issues allowing posts, if you could pm me, or post as a reply, the database error that appears when the post fails it would greatly help solve all the boards.
-
Still can't post in Color Management forum. First I get Database Error, then when I try again it throws up a spurious "you have already posted..." message.
:-(
John
-
I've got the same errors as John but on the For Sale thread. And that is a place where you have to pay to post ;-)
ALSO! Can we please fix hyperlinking text where you select the text, put the URL in the dialog and then have to manually type the linked text (which was already selected) all over again...
-
Hmm,
Still unable to post new msg in color mgt forum. Lots of other folks must be having similar troubles - I see no new posts since late July/early August in Lightroom, Digital Image Processing, Digital B&W forums. Maybe it's just "dog days of summer" & everyone's vacationing, but I have to wonder if it might be lots of folks just giving up on the forums?
It's too bad if this resource is to be abandoned.

Have you tried refreshing browser- this should have been addressed in last few days.
Sorry for interruption.

I can post (thanks), and ugly characters seem to be fixed. Only yet to be fixed: email notifications from existing posts.

Ok, looking at past email notification catch-up.

(sigh) - refreshed browser, signed out & back in again (BTW, this does not work as expected - when I go to sign in again, it immediately restores my status to 'logged in' - shouldn't it require me to log in by entering UID & password?). Have tried different browsers on different computers, different OS versions, at different times.
Will try again when I can free up some time.

Nope, still get the same "Database Error"
Trying to post simple text message with a 941K image attached. That shouldn't be too big, should it?
-
I am sorry to have to write this; sorry in the sense of what Lula is and what it was.
Forum difficulties have not gone away it seems. The forum is what keeps me coming back, but it is a shame that people are still having difficulty posting. As for the articles, there is a steady stream of reposting previous ones.
Surely the management must realise that there is competition; Petapixel, Photopxl, and DPreview, are three examples. This site is a pale shadow of its former self and others have good articles and forums. The final comment in a post in another thread, "I'm done." says it all. People will desert this site and then it will not be economic. To write again, a shame.

I appreciate the concern and sentiment - We spent some weeks prepping our gallery which required lots of software updates, part of that has meant a decoupling of libraries from the forum - its a huge amount of data, and its being addressed. Hence the bugs.
Here is a new article posted yesterday with a photo journalist / conservationist company we are considering doing workshops with,

For Sale section still broken!
******************Please try again. If you come back to this error screen, report the error to an administrator.*********************

If I'm not logged in to the website using Chrome browser, I am once again getting "index.PHP" files download to my desktop when I click on a thread to read.

No issues using Safari (on Mac) for me.

no issues using FireFox on Windows here.
-
Got an email notification so it seems that bug is fixed.
-
I am unable to post on the LR forum. Getting a database error. Also, while I can login using my iPad or iPhone, I cannot login to the forum on my iMac, I can login on the main site but get kicked off on the forum site.

Seems the forums are broken again, at least, :'( this is the case with the Coffee Corner.

Still not working for me.
-
can't post a new one, as of today.
Support only asked if I payed subscription( witch I did) and no reply since then
-
Same here
-
It's hit or miss. I can copy a bit of plain text and make simple edits, but if I get too greedy (adding some words or bullets, etc.) I get the usual error.
And NikonCafe is down now, bad day for forums...
-
Database errors are back again. Very frustrated.

Database error AGAIN trying to post to color management forum. Will this ever get fixed???
-
I was able to post this (below) to the CM forum and will continue to do so until this mess is fixed!
The forums here are totally screwed up and will not allow a full post of an answer. I keep getting a database error and have for months. I tried to answer your question. Go elsewhere for answers:
https://photopxl.com/forums/
-
Im not sure how you're able to post but still having sporadic issues. Have you received an answer from Paul?
I'm sorry your issue has persisted for such duration but Im. not sure why its affecting only a handful.
Can you please message him w screen shots etc?
Josh
-
On top of issues posting (on mostly off), notifications via email once again is broken.
-
And again today. The error is not consistent, I was able to work around it a bit by adding and subtracting from my simple post but it is very stressful-!
-
It's still a broken forum, database error AGAIN. Very sad!
-
FWIW, I have not encountered any database error (so far) but mostly the problems that prevented me to post are with "special" characters. I'm using Safari on a Mac to post here.
-
You've got to be kidding me! (See attachment.)
-
I was just saying that my problems were only present when I used "special" characters and by special I mean characters such as ellipsis or hyphens. I never experienced a "Database Error" without using such characters, at least until now. My wording may have been confusing and if it's the case then I'm sorry.
-
The recent bug does have to do with certain characters. But it SHOULD BE FIXED.
-
I've just received an update about the future of the Luminous Landscape website and an invitation to take a related survey.
Unfortunately on clicking the link to the survey I got the following message.
Prevented visiting a website that presents a data leakage threat
Prevented visiting a phishing or fake website designed to trick you into giving away your passwords, credit card details and other private data.
You really couldn't make this stuff up!
-
Not received that message here, FWIW.

I got the same silly email but on Mac Safari, I get a message the page can't be opened. In any case indeed, hard to belive the incompetence on top of the spam.
-
Had no problem opening it from the Lula email. Running iMac M1 with Ventura 13.6.1 and Safari v17.1
Jonathan
-
I had no problem opening up the link in the eMail for the survey (I filled it out) regarding changes to LuLa.
Opened up fine in both Opera and Safari on a MAC 12.7.2

cannot post; but this seems to work?
fixed it! the euro mark was the problem! alt+ 2 in my computer
i had to convert euro to dollar and it worked

FWIW, if I have a problem for one of my post and the solution is not obvious then I copy the text, paste in in a new window of BBEdit (the free edition is fine) and then choose Text > "Zap Gremlins...". Once cleaned, I put the text back here.
-
You should not have to do any of these gyrations. It's a bug that needs fixing! This was never an issue in years (decades) past.
LuLa; FIX THE BUG!

I agree 100% but since the changes aren't done on the server side, we have to do it on our side, unfortunately.
It's incredible that, as you wrote, we never had any issue with the previous forum software and now, without any advantage(s), we only see problems.
-

Indeed, I'm using TextSoap to do it quickly. I shouldn't have to, and the people running the forums should fix this mess, which has been ongoing for like a year now.
-
Perhaps "Swindy" will take a look at the problem. It would also be nice if he started a dialog with us on the forums. ;D

It would be nice. I guess that fixing the mess will take some time but being able to exchange views/problems is important.

I keep getting error messages for seemingly benign messages
-
I keep getting error messages for seemingly benign messages
This is exactly the kind of error messages I get when I'm using some "special" characters (like ellipsis or hyphen) or some invisible ones. You could try to clean up you text with TextSoap (like Andrew suggested above) or equivalent.
It drives me crazy, especially with long messages or posts. >:(
-
Have just tried to post a reply and got the attached message. I am now very fed up. I am also tired of trying to read posts that have funny characters inserted, as others have already pointed out. These issues have been going on too long.
I am on the verge of giving up this forum up and going to another run by someone who was in charge of this site some years ago after Michael. I use the other forum and it and its site have no problems.
-
Two days ago I renewed my LL subscription for some reason ;-)
And I still see this error, TODAY! No special characters in use.

It's still buggy indeed.
I'd be shocked after all this time if the bug ever gets fixed.
I'll spend my money elsewhere.

Thanks Andrew, keep their feet to the fire!
-
Have just spent time on my iPhone (latest OS) typing a reply to a post, and got the attached error message on trying to post it.
Why do I bother?
Jonathan
-
The only fix (for me) is to use TextSoap on macOS (Scrub) or a free product on iOS called Text Case. The forum is bugged, no one seems to care about fixing it. This has never happened in the past, so there's no reason why we should have to jump through such hoops. But hoops do exist.
-
The last time I wanted to reply to a post, I got an error message, not the first. I managed to post the screen shot in this thread, wondering why I bother.
I have just tried to reply to a post in the Printers section, from someone with a profile problem on their Canon Pro-300 printer which I also have. Again I got an error message (attached) on trying to post.
Much as I would like to contribute, it is a waste of time. This has been going on too long for others as well as me. It seems that this site cannot cope with posts using the standard procedure from an Apple iPhone or an iMac, both using the latest OS. If it cannot be fixed, then I am not trying any more posts, however much I want to be part of the community.
Until I have proof that the problem is fixed, I will go elsewhere. Such a shame given this site's history.
I wonder if anyone at Lula will read this.
Jonathan
-
I wonder if anyone at Lula will read this. Jonathan
The history thus far is no one will fix this recent (6-8 month old) bug. It has to do with text formating. I've overcome this bug using TextSoap (Scrub) to remove whatever characters cause this sillyness but I should not have to do so.

-
An alternate solution, so far successful, is to post in Russian and then either leave the reader to google translate or be kind and post the english text directly below. [/face-palm-in-disbelief]

IS THERE ANYBODY HOME ??

They are Aliens!
-
Hello!
Alien here. :o. Help is on the way.
LuLa's officially changed hands in the last week. Thank you all who helped and supported us in getting it done.
With that being said - I'm excited about going forward. Lots has been going on behind the scenes with improvements. The forum is a tricky beast - we're working through the technical difficulties. Hopefully the doing away with the ads has helped our experience.
Have the posting been easier in the last week?
As for alien abductions...There's a longtime LuLa friend lurking here that will be moderating here for us. It's been a struggle to get the permissions restored. I'm looking forward to getting us back on track.
Thanks

As of RIGHT NOW:
-
Indeed, still broken.

Indeed, still broken.
And then when you try to edit the post to remove any potentially offending character, you are told you already posted! Grrrrrrr.
-
I an trying to post in the for sale section. I can post a title, but no body copy or attachments in the message, get a database error.
-
I have managed to post, but had to avoid using any numbers in the message, or it could have been a pound sign that caused the error.

For just this one post:

"Expect" suggests you are not quite sure, Jeremy. Personally, I fear it may be something to do with some of the mad views expressed in the Bear Pit...

I wasn't quite sure, Rob, as I don't handle that side of things and I'd not communicated with Jon; but my expectation appears to have been correct.
If the expression of mad views in the Bear Pit were the reason, it would have happened years ago and would not have been remediable.
