Hi guys
Just wondering, does anyone has experience if the Epson 7500/9500 can cut third party Canvas like Ilford Canvas Natural oder Tecco Canvas Natural White?
So far I have never printed on Canvas on my old 9890. Only on Tecco/Ilford FineArt Rag paper with 300g and some quite thin These media were always perfectly cutted by the plotter.

I think the knife will jam. Canvas is made out of fabric, it's too strong. I have tried it with my epson 9900 and doesn't work.

How do you cut the Canvas? With a cutter and unloading the roll or at the lower edge of the plotter, where the Canvas comes out?

If this is the vintage 7500/9500 I think you are out of luck for cutting other than paper.
I had both a 7600 (a newer model than the 7500 as I recall) and replaced that with a 9800 for larger prints and better inks. Though it printed faster/better than the 7600, including canvas, it required hand-cutting as the auto cutter was too wimpy.
I looked into the cutter for the 9800 for canvas but it cost more than the printer was worth, was manual and with the project I was starting simply decided to replace it with the 9900 which has a beefier rotary cutter that was rated for canvas. A few thousand canvas prints later, it's still going strong.
Pretty sure anything prior to the 7900/9900 probably would choke the cutter when using it to auto cut most canvas. Each model newer also prints faster, at least twice the speed as the former and I think that my 9900 is considered slow today compared two the two newer models that have replaced it.

My Epsons (7800, 9600, 9800) has always had difficulty cutting canvas but my Canons don't. I think Canon uses a different cutter type.

Don't even attempt it. My Epson 9800 ruined the first canvas I attempted to auto-cut.
It's very easy to sever the canvas with a sharp utility knife once the print is complete.

I've cut maybe 5 sheets on canvas on my 9800 w/o a problem. But that's all since they warn not to.

I mean the newest generation of Epson plotters. In US I guess they are called 7570/9570. In Europe, Epson is using 7500/9500. 🤷♂️

Thx guys! So I guess I'm not trying the Epson cutter for cutting canvas. 😇 Instead I try a cutter knife. Any recommendations here? Take out the roll? Cut while the roll keeps installed in the printer?

Not sure what kind of issues you guys are having cutting canvas but it works for me and really well too. We have had a 7900, 9890,9900 and now a P8000 and have cut thousands of canvases. It is made for that. Cuts like a hot knife through butter. The 9900 we had for 10.5 years was the only one that I had to replace the cutter after 8 years. I believe the printer showed 4800 prints when I changed the cutter. $65 and took 5 minutes. You are not saving anything by not using the onboard cutter, use it. When we cut larger prints, even medium sized ones we hold both ends of the canvas tight which helps make a clean cut. It certainly can snag but when you monitor and hold the canvas it rarely gives us any problems.

Although I've had no experience with ether the 7500 or 9500 printers, I can say that I've never had any problems with the 9900 that I used for 7+ years or the P7000 for almost 5 years now. I've never used neither the Ilford or Tecco canvases so I cannot talk about those. The canvas I've used for more than 20 years is the BREATHING COLOR - CHROMATA WHITE, with absolutely no issues with the Auto Cutting.

I think the 9500/9570 is the current replacement to my 9900, just a couple of models newer with upgraded inks and head among other improvements. Both printers use a similar rotary cutter so you may be safe with using it to cut canvas as the cutters in earlier printer were never as robust. YMMV, though. I print quite a bit of canvas using the auto cutter with my 9900 and have few problems.

Currently using two P9570s, and while they have a ton of issues that Epson needs to address, cutting canvas isn't one of them. I use Breathing Color Lyve and Lexjet Premium Sunset Reserve canvas and we've never had a problem cutting them. I've also got a P9000 and previously two 9900s, and have never had an issue cutting canvas.
After coating them canvas we will often trim a bit before stretching using a Rotary cutter and sometimes that has issues, but never with the printer itself. If you're having troubles with your particular printer, a very nice solution is electric/battery scissors. We have a pair by the printers at all times for when the printer has trouble cutting thicker papers.
