Driving back home from visiting my mom in the Sheffield care home she now resides in (sadly) and the weather for the time we were down their was absolutely atrocious, named storm after named storm and constant driving rain, hale and high winds for over two weeks. Then on the morning we got to back into Scotland and drove through the Glen Coe area, it started to brighten up a bit and the wind dropped and so I thought I really ought to make the most of this and grab a shot or two as we drove through Glen and this shot is the result.
So a bit of a drive-by-shooting really without any pre-planning at all and I had only taken one lens with me, but what an amazing day it turned out to be.

Thanks Francios and I would have loved to have brought my wide angle lens with me, but the weather forecast was for wall-to-wall awful, so like an idiot I trusted it and only took my 24-105 with me, because I never expected to get the chance to take any shots at all.
A good lesson learnt there I think.. :-[

A 24-105 lens already covers a very usable range and on top of that, it's just impossible to have the ideal/perfect lens for all the possible situations… That being said, I do understand you as I find myself in the very same situation pretty regularly.

I agree Francois, the 24-105 is in my opinion, is a great lens, especially for a general 'walk about' lens. But I have also had something of an ongoing love affair with my 16-35 and use it a little too much if I am being honest, so why the heck I didn't take it with my I will never know. A senior moment perhaps???
Although in saying this, I have also learnt over the years, that if I take all my lenses out with me (about 8, including a 150-600), because I know I am going to a location where I will be able to work from the back of the car, I find that usually, I never take a single shot, or even take the camera out of the bag - it's like a jinx to me or something when I take everything. Yet if I go out under prepared, then.... well, look at the result above :)

So just try to imagine the stunning scenes you'd see if you deliberately left your camera at home!
I wonder if it would help to hide the cameraand lenses under a blanket on the car's backseat until you come across a stunning scene. Then pull it out and shoot quick, before the scene realized that you do have your camera with you. ;)
