I like this shot as is. But the rhythm and pattern part of my brain never stops and is suggesting a crop. Not to make it better, but to bring out the pattern of the grasses as stand alone alternate view of the grasses in the landscape. If you crop out everything above the grasses, you have a beautiful pattern of grasses.

Yes, very nice. But that is the point. in the first you are moved by the landscape and grasses; in the second by the grasses themselves.

Inspired by David's excellent photo, I was reminded of a similar shot that I took near Dettifoss in Iceland.

I like the 2nd a bit more, largely because of the absence of the sky. It helps focus the composition (imho).

As John and Arlen note, there are at least two different subjects here. One is the bushes. The other is the cinder plain on which these bushes live. This latter subject is what I originally intended to capture and convey. I have visited this spot several times and it is amazing to me that amidst this volcanic desolation from ancient times, anything can exist at all. Out of desolation, beauty grows. I think this reflects the profound appeal of DV for me.
