Title: Shutter Failure

Hi,   1DS mk2 @ 28,000 actuations the shutter failed, it showed an image of one of the blades in the shot, but the camera is out of warranty.

I took the camera to Canon in the UK, and are waiting for their response, as I don't believe that this should be chargeable

They also said that its possible that it could have scratched the sensor, -- hope not

The Guy there said 'its not a failure, the blade has come out', but that seems like a failure to me

Somewhere, if anyone knows I believe that Canon states something like 200,000 actuations for this shutter.

I seen posts in the past re-shutter problems on these DS cameras, but Canon denied it was a problem, but spoke to a friend who has had shutter failure under warranty, how many people are experiencing shutter problems?

Any advice to achieve results with Canon appreciated

Good luck with trying to get anything from Canon.

They make good cameras but provide poor customer relations.

Might be worth you going to a camera shop, or better still, the shop where you brought the camera from. They might be willing to help

Perhaps 200,000 is the expected life.  There could be large differences between expected life, warranted life and actual life.  I think if the number of actuations is beyond warrantee, it is up to Canon to decide and you could be out of luck.  Your best bet may be with someone interested in keep you as a happy customer (Canon, camera dealer, whoever).

The 150000 or 200000 frame shutter life is Canon's estimated average shutter life expectancy, not a warranty/guarantee. Some people experience shutter failures sooner, but others have gone 500000 frames and not experienced a failure yet. Canon's claims are reasonably close to the peak of the shutter life bell curve.

I have over 50000 frames each on my 1Ds and 1D-MkII and no problems yet.
