At first glance I thought the fulmar chick was just puzzled because he  had expected to land in Goa after such a long flight, but this black sand didn't look like any description of Goa he had heard.   ;)

I've seen puffins taking off from high cliffs in a similar way. With their short, stubby wings one wonders how they can fly at all.

Eric, yes, puffins are clumsy flyers. But they can swim and dive very well.

I agree.

Since puffins are such good swimmers, I always wonder how they manage to get airborne again after a swim.
