Title: Replacing Monitor Screen

Is there any possibility of someone other than a manufacturer (in this case NEC) replacing a monitor screen when the manufacturer will no longer do it?

Also, is there info about how long major monitor makers tend to have replacement parts available after a model has been discontinued?

I suspect that replacing the screen will cost more than a new monitor.
