The scene has some great light, but also some distractions (twigs at bottom, branches at right) that, to me, detract from the overall effect. The branch cutting across the sky is an obvious inclusion, but to my eyes, is also a distraction. None of these sweet to add to the feeling of the scene.

Hi Terry,
All the information in the picture is there because I designed it to be so. Much of my photography is the first step to a painting. So the crazy space with all the “clutter”is a fertile ground for me. But thanks very much for your voice. I appreciate it.

Thanks, Peter, that clarifies things. However, it also causes me to wonder, if you made the photo for use in painting, then why show it as a photograph? Photography is certainly a great tool to “sketch” light and shadow and shape and form? However, and perhaps my expectations are off, if you submit the image to ‘User Critique’ on a photo forum, then I would think you are submitting what you would consider to be a finished or near-finished photograph, not something that is on its way to become a painting, which could end up looking completely different. No offence intended, just thinking out loud.

My sense and aesthetic is virtually the same whether I’m painting or photographing. So in my mind it’s a complete photograph. I really enjoy and do street photography, so I approach the landscape very much the same. In the moment as a complete statement.
