I always enjoy your impressionistic approach to cityscapes and architecturals, Slobodan. The two displayed in the gallery — I recall that you have posted them individually here before — are both excellent.

Good luck with it, Slobodan. Brings back memories of seeing my stuff in a couple Colorado Springs galleries. Unfortunately, the experience was better at boosting my ego than producing revenue. I hope you sell like mad.

A Cuban is a good Cuban until you prove otherwise, the same as any other nationality on this planet.
Rob, I really like your posts and photos, but I think these posts about Cuban nationals were really wrong.

Don’t think one needs a PhD to understand what was clearly a sardonic comment by Rob aimed at the ideology of those on the far-right. Previous threads on immigration and illegals come to mind.
The reference to Othello should have dispelled any doubt.

I guess we'll need to add really huge smiling yellow balloons to the LuLa vocabulary. Or disclaimers that not all posts should be taken seriously.

And what exactly “the far-right ideology” has to do with it? This is a country of immigrants, myself included. One million legal immigrants enter the U.S. annually. Miami has a large Cuban population and a whole section of the town. There is no “ideology” against legal immigrants.
Rob’s comment was simply despicable for its intended implication, given its placement in a totally apolitical and personal thread.

If anyone is unable to understand English properly, let me put it into even more simple terms: these pages are filled with comments about different nationals "invading" the USA - exactly as Lord Trump wants them to think and expound.
Slobodan himself is no advocate of open borders, yet, when a presumably non-native person, still referred to as a Cuban (note, not referred to as an American) happens to have a conveniently situated café or bar, all is sweetness and light with said nationality and appellation.
However, when Obama attempts to create some much-needed harmony and normalization with that island and its people, he is an idiot selling out America to the Communists!
That's what the term situation ethics implies: the same thing is good or bad depending on how it fits in with the mood, circumstances and surroundings - not to mention company - within which the person passing the opinion happens to find himself.
To reduce it to even more simple a base: a Cuban "American" with a nice, conveniently placed bar is fine; one living and sweating in Cuba is probably a red threat; as for Raul - he is a Cuban who lives in Florida and posts in LuLa, so he is a good Cuban - which I'm certain he is, even if he sometimes fails to get the implications of written English. Sadly, he isn't the only one, it seems.
This is no attack on Cuba or Cubans: I only know and respect one Cuban: a musician who lives here on the island. A more pleasant, polite and cultured person you couldn't hope to meet. The post was a question: when or when not is a person - a Cuban, in this case, considered a good person or otherwise? The implied answer to that question being as I wrote here: depends much on whether you like him or not, and who you happen to be with at the time of making your comment.
My post is not, was not, and in no way resembles an attack on either Cuba or Cubans.
To clarify even further:
1. I am myself of mixed breed: the perfect mongrel; part Brit and part Italian with a background of living in both those countries as well as in India and Spain. I have been able to observe the various nationalist antics of all of those peoples and in my judgement, they all come down to backing the home team, rightly or wrongly. That's pathetic. There is a lack of objectivity that leads to much of the trouble we see in our world today.
2. In the correspondence above, it happened to be the word Cuban that was employed. You could interchange that noun with almost any other that denotes a country of origin and it comes down to exactly the same thing, the same argument and the same cultural blindness, and all can and are used in the same convenient little packagings dependent on personal advantages at the time.

What it has to do with your thread is the reference, your very own, to the Cuban coffee establishment. Where did I write "far-right ideology"? Not one of my pet permutations of phrase. Oh - is that just another "red" herring perhaps? Some may jump for that, but not I. I realise your reply was to someone else, but the inclusion in your attack on my post ties the two together.
As for my "despicable comment and intent", you appear to have struck out on both counts. There was nothing despicable there; I am ever aware of how easily one might be thrown out of the conversation if not also the site; I try to use my words carefully, and though I sometimes fail, this was not one such occasion.
As for the thread being apolitical, there is no thread here that stays rigidly to original post and proposition, unless in the tech. threads; it's one of the attractions of LuLa that conversation can flow, develop and remain interesting and current enough to solicit responses. In your twisted interpretation, that word is supposed to mean this, in your words:

You see, Rob, Cuban coffee is a type of coffee, Café Cubano, just like English Breakfast is a type of tea. It is a very strong coffee, prepared with a lot of sugar.
There was nothing political in what I wrote, nor any hidden meaning. Whatever political garbage you managed to imply is on you, especially accusing me of "pathetic, nationalistic antics," dual standards, and questionable morality. That is really pathetic.
In my OP post, I made no comments whatsoever about Cuban people, certainly not that "one living and sweating in Cuba is probably a red threat." As you know, I've been twice to Cuba, and yes, I admit, in the first photo essay from the trip (which can be found here (https://www.slobodanblagojevic.com/cuba-cruises)) I did make a statement about Cuban people:
For me, the most surprising aspect of Cuba today: its people! - friendly, jovial, colorful:
That girl was the one serving me my first Café Cubano. Sweet. Coffee and the girl.

Why else? Several forum members posted here when they had a solo exhibition, or being included in an exhibition, or in a gallery. This is simply an announcement and invitation. My thread is titled "When you are in Hollywood, FL..." Come on in, stop by. I know at least one forum member that visits frequently Fort Lauderdale/Miami area. Turns out, another member actually lives here as well.
I do not need your validation. I've had plenty already. (https://www.slobodanblagojevic.com/p504554869) But I will take "+1" as a polite social custom anytime over your sarcasm. Nobody is forced to reply.

Thanks for the good wishes. I will need it. As I mentioned to Russ, I have no illusion that gallery sales are going to be great. It is a low (tourist) season for South Florida, so very few people even pass by, let alone walk in. Perhaps once a month, when there is an art event in the adjacent street, we can have 100-200 visitors in a day. Not much buying, though. But compliments, oh, compliments... ;)

Sweet, Slobodan, sweet, but the conversation has moved way beyond your original post. You should reread what I actually wrote or, at least, quote it in full rather than make delightful little edits that can, as with anything that's manipulated, be turned to mean anything you want them to mean.
You really can do better than that if you put your mind to it!

Off for my first cataract op tomorrow morning; I wonder where I shall eventually have lunch? Fortunately, my visiting daughter was able to alter her flights, and so no need to worry about transportation and the more difficult problem of finding a relative to sign me out after the event! They refuse to let folks go back home alone, possibly because they may attempt to drive. Which makes sense. The not driving, I mean.

Rob, Best of luck with the cataract op. I had both eyes done, actually many years ago now. The procedure is pretty cut and dried nowadays, and the results, for me at least, have been excellent.
