The zoom makes the dragon's face really stand out with appropriate emphasis. Something special rather than a standard snapshot. I like it!

I think the mild "John R" treatment works perfectly.

Yes this treatment really does help separate the subject from the background in a way that is both interesting and suited to the subject. So you killed two birds with one stone treatment! One thought is that you might try cropping out the top portion of the overpass horizontal bar (very strong line) to minimize even more the background. But with the caveat, that the crop not ruin the balance or crowd in the subject.
