If I'm not mistaken these units are those that use Bloodhounds to track poachers in Virunga
AFAIK at least at the beginning they were trained by Dr. Marlene Zähner, a Swiss vet who brought Mantrailing to Switzerland.
Seeing working BHs at work is like seeing magic. They don't need eyes, they see with the nose ;)
Handlers must be fit. These big dogs don't keep sniffing around for long, if they get the scent they just GO.
I've seen a trained dog successfully following a 24h old 2km trail left by a person that had been transported in a closed car.
My respect to everybody there
