Title: Election fever
Post by: Ivo_B on April 20, 2019, 03:10:00 pm
European elections are on the way. In Belgium it is combined with Federal and regional elections.
I'm working on a series about election publicity.

It would be nice to see how local streets look in full election campaign in other European countries or other continents.

Somebody?

In Mallorca, they go for the block vote, as evident on the centre-left...

Liberals are on the fence as well, but safe to cross.

Reminds me of a hand-written note, on a building entrance in Belgrade, during elections:

"A kind request to all political parties not to stuff our mailboxes with new promises... we haven't used those from the last election yet."

This guy is literally using his promises of previous election (on the backside of a sign for another event)

We have an election next month. I should get out and shoot. Haven’t shot anything other than commercial work for ages. Very busy with commissions and personal stuff. For my sanity I need to do some personal work

Any snaps of Yoleen? Sounds like a name in a C&W classic. Those garments are good for you; who will ever forget Eva Herzigová saying hello, boys!

This is an interesting series, Ivo; good idea you had.

On another level, it minds me of the Jules Feiffer song, The Ballad of Lucy Jordan.

and of yet another little ditty of little houses, all made of ticky tacky...

The wheel it keeps on turnin'.

Thanks for the appreciation, Rob. And for the links.
O,  I’m pretty sure she is named after this also in Europe popular C&W song

An american Tourist showed off democracy to a Chinese
"In America we have elections very often. And you?"
Chinese:
"Yes we have. Evely molning"

Which explains the differences in productivity.

The Chinese allow themselves a working day at it, so of course they produce more.

The Swiss people vote four times each year on different subjects and levels (Direct Democracy)
This one is against adapting the Swiss Law on Weapons after the norms of the EU.

Cool. Is it a referenda system?

Cool. Is it a referenda system?

Hope I tell it right  :)

There are "popular initiatives" directly from the citizens, who have to gather first 100'000 signatures over a period of 18 months to be valid

Under  "referendum" I understand when a decision of the Parliament goes back to the people, who then decide through vote.
- For a  change in the Constitution  the referendum is mandatory
- For a new law through the Parliament the referendum is possible (optional) (50'000 signatures gathered in a period of 100 days)

Every 4 years there are elections (Parliament)

From https://www.parlament.ch/en/%C3%BCber-das-parlament/how-does-the-swiss-parliament-work/Rules-governing-parliamentary-procedures/federal-constitution :
The basis for the present day Federal Constitution is the Constitution of 12 September 1848, which established the Swiss federal state. This document was heavily influenced by the US Constitution and the ideals of the French Revolution.

I have not seen any posters yet for the upcoming local and European elections, it could be that most of the parties are a little embarrassed about the latter and local elections are mostly ignored here in the North where voting is a little tribal and has little to do with policies. I will have a look and post if I find any. Ken
