Title: My LuLa Top Ten Photographers
Post by: Eric Myrvaagnes on March 18, 2019, 12:14:20 pm
Time for my personal LuLa Forum Awards Ceremony (start drumroll...)

I have been active on the Forum for some fourteen years, and I expect to continue for many more years.
Lately I've been noticing that there are certain regular posters of images that seem to me to have their vision and technique so consistently together that I know I will respond positively to any photos that they post.

So I have now compiled a list of my top ten favorite photographers currently active on the forum.
I am omitting from my list any that I know are currently professionally active, such as giving regular workshops. I'm also omitting all of the specialists who have taught me so much about all aspects of technique, and anyone who simply writes brilliant commentaries (unless thay also do excellent photography.)
Of course, my list probably just says more about my personal taste than it does about their work, but anyway, here they are, in alphabetical order by their LuLa handles:

   BobDavid
   John R
   KLaban
   petermfiore
   Rajan Parrikar
   Rob C
   RSL
   Slobodan Blagojevic
   Stamper
   stevenfr

Cheers, Eric

Eric

Very kind of you to include my work on your list. I would add Bernard's Languillier name to the list if that is ok.

Wow, I made the list! Thanks Eric. This reminds me of this new YouTuber who vlogs about photography, but is really a comedian. Watch him make fun of everything photographic. He even made a top ten list of photography sites and everyone seems to want to be on his list. The evidence is that they write in and say so.

Nobody should feel left out, Fab. Some of the reasons some good photographers didn't make my (personal) list:
1.   I haven't yet seen enough of their work yet,
2.   They work in genres that don't interest me,
3.   I just don't understand what they are trying to convey,
4.   Or I might have included them, but I wanted to stop at 10, or
5.   I'm just too dumb to get it.

Bernard definitely belongs on the list.
Hmmm. Whom shall I dump? Or make it my top 11?   ;D

The back patting continues among the ten photographers who post 90% of the images on LuLa. "Aren't we great."

Do ten post 90%, or is that fake news?

I ask, having just watched france24.com run a feature on exactly that (fake news) in their debate that follows their 7pm news slot at about 7.10pm Monday thru Thursday, Friday's slot being occupied by their take on the week's news. I particularly enjoy Christopher Dickie if he's on the team.

Thrilling day today: the water heater sprang a leak on - or rather, I found it - on Saturday morning about an hour before a lady was coming to view my pad that's up for sale. I didn't know I was still capable of such rapid action, removing damp towels from what used to be the airing cupboard wherein lives the heater, all 100 litres of it. As soon as she and the agent left, I rang the plumbers not really expecting anyone to be working on Saturday morning. Anyway, they came out to see the tank, told me it would still be safe enough over Sunday, and that they'd have a replacement system by Monday which, unless I'm mistaken, should be today. Nobody came, but the place is now strewn with old sheets I used to use when painting the place. That's because they have to carry out the old tank in order to replace it, and things like that don't come without associated disasters. So, no hot water, the hope that the lady, should she want to have a second viewing, will wait a few more days because I have no guarantee these folks will be here tomorrow, either.

And then I find myself on a list. Silver linings? Oh, I forgot: film is history, so my little jolly fails.

Thank's Eric, but you are a brave man making lists!

I would send you a gallon of hat water, Rob, but I suspect it might not be hot by the time it gets to you.
I hope the plumber comes soon.

Much appreciated, Eric, but I rang the guy at noon today, Tuesday, and he promised he'd be at my doorstep at 3p.m. with the heater outfit. No doubt it will require a transfer of funds from there to here to pay for it, but c'est la vie, as we learn. So much for living within a pension... thank you, dear clients, for letting me stretch a little beyond - on rare occasions.

:-)

Not Flattered for the exclusion. Must post more often. ;)

But it reminded me that it would be a nice idea to have some small portfolios included in Lula...

Do please post more often. It may take a sledge hammer to break through my narrow-mindedness.

In a couple of months I think I should post an update, listing several posters that I should have included on the first list.

It is (sort of) possible to post some small portfolios here. You can fit up to four images in a single post, and some posters use two or more posts to show several images from a particular location or on a particular theme.

Go for it!

The safest thing to do, Eric, is to list the name of every photographer who has ever posted a picture here. The politically correct lobby will give you a resounding vote of approval, whereas the rest will wonder why you bothered to voice an opinion in the first place.

Of course, it might also just be more fake news!

Hi Eric,

Just saw this. I was in NYC teaching, and reviewing students for the upcoming Junior ear exhibition. I thank you for the inclusion and I too need to post more.

Thank you...

Peter
